Has Lexus created a hoverboard?

Is this the answer to 'Back to the Future' fans dreams or an advertising stunt? Lexus claims to have developed a functional hoverboard, called 'SLIDE', which is said to work using magnetic levitation to achieve frictionless movement.

Mark Templin, executive vice president at Lexus said: "It's the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination."

On its 'Amazing in Motion' website, Lexus said that SLIDE operates using liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors and permanent magnets to make it float about an inch above the ground.

SLIDE is being tested in Barcelona over the next few weeks, but Lexus have said that this is a prototype only and will not be for sale.
