Lighting Reality speed test video

Lighting Reality is demonstrating why its Reality Pro exterior design software is the fastest in the world, with a speed test demo ( on its new, redesigned website. In the short demo, Nick Smith, Technical Director of Lighting Reality, actually designs – in real time - an exterior lighting system for a two-lane highway in just two minutes; the timing verified by an on- screen stop watch.  Read More

TeePlug cable connector

Hylec-APL, a leading bulk supplier of electrical and electronic components, has introduced a new design of weatherproof plug-socket. The TeePlug cable connector is a quick anchoring plug designed for mounting on flat or curved surfaces. It can be inserted through a bulkhead or pole outer skin, installed and clamped without access to the back of the connector and offers IP67 ingress protection.  Read More

Spelsberg els entry methods

The complete choice of cable entry options explained, including when is the right time for a quick entry. When specifying an enclosure for electrical applications one of the key considerations has to be cable entry. The cable entry points of an enclosure can help to determine the overall level of ingress protection (IP) provided against the external environment as well as cable retention force and crucially, installation speed, all-the-while balancing utility with cost.  Read More

MMF stock swap

Local auto parts supply specialist and GAU member Manchester Motor Factors has re-profiled, re-categorised and replaced its entire current stock of replacement exhaust components in order to improve stock levels, availability and quality consistency for customers. The huge task has been completed in just one day, without any disruption in supply. The entire new stock, including the logistics and profiling work has been supplied by the UKs leading manufacturer, Klarius Group.  Read More

Introduction to Concurrent Engineering

The concept of concurrent engineering is simple, and the benefits are clear. By synchronising aspects of product design and development, you can speed up the design and manufacturing cycle and reduce time-to-market. Excellence in concurrent engineering depends on many factors -- choosing the right technologies, careful planning, a commitment to capturing design intent at the start of any new project, and a product development vision that extends well past the manufacturing and delivery of the product.  Read More

U3-X Personal Mobility Prototype

Honda's U3-X is designed to provide the rider with freedom of movement in any direction forward, backward, sideways and diagonally by leaning slightly in the desired direction. The compact one-wheeled device also features a foldable seat and retractable footrests. A lithium-ion battery pack provides power for up to one hour of use and can be recharged by plugging in to a conventional household or office 120V power outlet. Weighing roughly 22 pounds, U3-X uses a proprietary balance control system which derives from Honda's research into human walking dynamics for the development of the ASIMO bi-pedal humanoid robot.  Read More

Form-in-place gaskets – Cheaper than you think?

Form-in-place gaskets (FIP) have been part of the mainstream enclosure industry for many years but the cost and physical size of robotic application has been a major constraint for SMEs – until now. Intertronics has focused on bench-top robotics and matched compliant gasket materials to provide low cost equipment to suit boxes or housings from 200 x 150mm, junction boxes, terminal boxes, control boxes, electronic housings or small mechanical gearboxes. The company says it has dramatically cut entry cost on the smallest – with larger equipment running right up to 800 x 600mm machines.  Read More

Bloodhound project: 1050mph
