Polymer specialist to open innovation centre

High performance polymer specialist Victrex is to build what it says is a major polymer innovation centre in northern England, supported by a £1.3million grant from the UK's Regional Growth Fund. The project is expected to help in the creation of more than 80 direct and indirect jobs over the next 10 years and could attract investment of £16m.

The planned facility will increase the company's ability to turn lab concepts into solutions and processes that can sustain mass production. It will also enable the scaling up of new products and applications to full commercialisation.

"Victrex is continuing to invest in cutting edge technological leadership in advanced polymers," commented Dr John Grasmeder, technical director. "Improved application performance at the same or reduced cost is a common objective that we're helping our customers to address across industries. The aircraft industry, for example, is now embracing newly-developed technology for major cost and weight savings combined with accelerated assembly times. That's just one example among hundreds."
