Giant plastic chain goes offshore

The world's largest cable carrier has been produced by igus for the oil and gas industry. Its giant e-chain cable carriers and chainflex continuous-flex cables have been specifically developed for the challenging environment of the offshore industry.

The chain is manufactured from high performance toughened plastic, making it resistant to corrosion, high UV and temperature. The chain is also being produced in ATEX-ESD compliant versions and has already been proven to function reliably at the extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions typical of the North Sea.

It is well suited to carrying large cables and hoses 15m up and down during drilling operations. In addition, its chainflex range of flexible cables is designed for millions of moving cycles. A large number of these have the NEK606 offshore cable rating, meaning they are halogen free and mud resistant, to provide a reliable and safe solution in the toughest of offshore environments.
