Composite vehicle wins first hydrogen car race
The first ever ‘Formula Zero’ race for hydrogen-powered cars was won in Rotterdam on 23 August 2008
in a car built by students at the Delft University of Technology using Turane thermoset urethane resins from DSM Composite Resins.
The Greenchoice-Forze car used Turane resins for the body, air channels, floor plate, absorption bumpers and parts of the dashboard. The exterior of the vehicle was reinforced with DSM’s Dyneema polyethylene fibre.
Edgar van Os, Greenchoice Forze’s team leader said: “The resins flow easily and cure very quickly, so it’s possible to use vacuum infusion to produce large parts that are both extremely light and strong.”
